| Part P Guidelines With a few exceptions any electrical work undertaken in your home which includes the addition of a new electrical circuit, or involves work in your: Kitchen Bathroom Garden area |
| From 1st January 2005 all new electrical wiring or electrical equipment for a house, flat or small commercial premise linked to domestic accommodation must be designed and installed in accordance with the new Part P of the Building Regulations. New electrical works are divided into two different categories: Non – notifiable work: That is works which are very minor as detailed in Appendix A Table 1 attached. These works may be carried out by a competent person (see Appendix D) who can issue a Minor Works Certificate to the owner upon completion of works, or on a DIY basis providing the works are tested upon completion by a competent person and the Minor Works Certificate issued. Notifiable work (See Appendix A Table 2) All works except those detailed in Table 1 are notifiable to the local authority, and therefore need to be checked in one of two ways detailed below. |
| Upon completion the installer will advise ELECSA of the work done to be logged with all other UK installations. ELECSA then inform your Local Authority of the work and issue you with a confirmation certificate for retention with your property deeds. You will be asked to supply this certificate if you come to sell your property. |
